The Hotel Resol Kyoto
Located in the heart of Kyoto’s commercial district, the Hotel Resol Kawaramachi Sanjo is a sleek and stylishly modern hotel.
Yet, despite its minimalistic approach, it still manages to hold on to its traditional Japanese aesthetic and sensibilities.
A night’s stay in a double twin bed room will run you approximately JP¥12000 ($110USD) on www.agoda.com. Breakfast is not included.
An excellent self-serve coffee/cappuccino is located in the hotel lounge. It’s also a good thing that the hotel just happened to be located across the street from my favourite Okonomiyaki restaurant in Kyoto…Shōgetsu Okonomi.
The room was clean, the staff was friendly and the amenities were sufficient. The well-lit suite featured a decent size TV, a simplicity to its furniture, and a wonderful paper window, which could still be opened to a view of the street below.
The overall style of the hotel room harkens back to the Japan of the past with a modern twist, which is perfect for tourists seeking to visit Kyoto to explore Japan’s rich traditions. The location is also perfect to go Geisha sighting. Although the standard two-bed suite might be considered small by some (25 m²), for us it was a decent size for what you might expect to pay when visiting the often cramped living-spaces in Japan.
We would definitely recommend the Hotel Resol to anyone wanting a convenient location to explore the old district, city centre and Kyoto’s bustling nightlife.
